Duane Jones
Duane Lionel Jones (February 2, 1936 – July 22, 1988) was an American actor and director renowned for his groundbreaking role in the horror genre. Jones is best known for his portrayal of Ben in George A. Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" (1968), a role that made a significant impact due to its portrayal of a strong, resourceful African-American protagonist in a leading role, breaking racial stereotypes prevalent at the time. Despite the film's modest budget, Jones's performance was critically acclaimed and remains a defining moment in his career. Following "Night of the Living Dead," Jones appeared in other films and television shows, including "Ganja & Hess" (1973) and "Beat Street" (1984).
