Edgar Georg Ulmer (September 17, 1904 – September 30, 1972) was an Austrian-American film director known for his work in various genres, including film noir, horror, and science fiction. Ulmer began his career in the 1920s and is best remembered for his innovative and often unconventional filmmaking style. He directed notable films such as "Detour" (1945), a seminal film noir known for its low-budget production and dark, twisted narrative, and "The Black Cat" (1934), a pioneering horror film that featured Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff. Ulmer also directed "The Amazing Transparent Man" (1960), a science fiction film. Ulmer’s work is celebrated for its creativity and impact on genre filmmaking, particularly within the realms of noir and horror.
